Haircut and Hairstyle Advice For Mature Women
Owner of Crimson Hair Studio and Master Stylist Jen:
Over the last 20 years I have been asked lots of questions, but I get asked daily if someone is too old for a specific hairstyle, or at what age should I cut my hair short. There are no rules for this! A cut that suits your own personality and accentuates your features is the key to style at any age.
This wispy bob with swept bangs can be a versatile style for many women; the swept bangs really soften your look. The cut can be worn with natural curl or wave, or even straight. I love the tone of Kim Cattrall’s hair color also because the soft golden tones really brighten her skin!
Do what makes you feel good! Your hair, just like your style, changes (density & texture) throughout your life, as does your personal style. Be open about likes, dislikes, and changes with your stylist. It’s easy to get in a routine of asking for the same haircut & style because it’s easy & safe, but sometimes your stylist might see an opportunity for a change that you might not necessarily see yourself. Your hair color, cut, and style can be as bold or as subtle as you want it to be, no matter your age!

Have fun with it! Go for colors or styles you may have never done when a little younger & still had to play it safe.
I hear the “am i too old to have hair this length” question often and honestly i’ve never bought into the “rule” of older women should have short hair.
Age and hair length are, as most things, a measure of personal choice: what suites me, what makes me feel beautiful, how does this work with my life style? These are the actual questions you should ask when searching (with your stylist) for the ideal length, style, & beauty for you at any age!

Perms are back & part of a great summer look! This could be the answer to your prayers: low daily maintenance, body, and waves.
As you age, something that what was once a minor problem can become more major: for example, thinning hair gets thinner or dry hair gets dryer. For thin hair, a highlight can help to visibly give density, coupled with a nice hair spray or dry shampoo. For coarse hair, try a conditioning treatment and keep the heat to a minimum. Travel with a hair moisturizer cream to spot treat ends to smooth & take away the look & feel of dryness.
“I followed Sherry to Crimson. She is awesome and the salon is great. Very customer service oriented. I did not feel out of place even though I was old enough to be the parent of everyone there. My cut was great, and I can take the train there.
I will be back.” Sandi
